Burger and Lobster has been on my London ‘bucket list’ for a while now. Part of the expanding list of London’s new concept restaurants, this does exactly what it says on the tin; burgers and lobsters. Initially I thought there is no way there would be gluten free given that one half of the menu is a burger however I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the lobster, fries and others sides/sauces are in fact gluten free! Also the burger can be made GF (or Californian style as they say here) by removing the bun and replacing with lettuce. Being a big seafood fan I went for the lobster which came with skinny fries, salad (minus the croutons) and a garlic butter to smother over the lobster. Our waitress had excellent GF knowledge and allergy awareness however I just wish the food would have lived up to the great service! I wanted to love it, when it arrived on a large silver platter it looked quite spectacular. Continue reading
In my recent post about GBK’s new gluten free menu I talked about how I liked the burgers but wasn’t that happy about the bun, it was dry and crumbly and did let the burger down. Not long after my post I was contacted by GBK with some great news, they have improved their gluten free buns. They asked if I would like to go back and try them and kindly sent me some vouchers.
I decided to go try out one of these improved burgers on my lunch break as GBK offer a handy takeaway service. I went for the classic cheese burger which was cooked medium with an American style cheese topping. By the time I got back to my desk I couldn’t wait to try it! The first thing that struck me was how huge the burger was and in comparison to the drier, smaller bun I was presented at my last visit to GBK so this was a vast improvement already. The new burgers looked amazing before Continue reading
I heard on the Twitter grape-vine that Gourmet Burger Kitchen had introduced a gluten free burger bun and never one to miss out, I went to try it out. I was back home in Yorkshire recently visiting my parents and decided to make a day trip to the beautiful York city centre which has a branch of GBK. On arrival I asked the staff if they had GF buns on offer and she said not only did they have the buns but a whole gluten free menu! This was a great surprise as it also contained many more items that were gluten free. The staff were excellent with their GF knowledge and were able to answer all my questions on arrival. One of the first questions I asked was why chips were missing off the gluten free menu and Continue reading
Q. When is a burger not a burger? A. When it is without its bun!
I have spent many years seeing all these new gourmet burger shops open up advertising a GF burger but on closer inspection of the menu this simply meant a ‘bun-less’ burger! Why on earth would you want a dry patty of beef on your plate – after all, you wouldn’t call a piece of ham a ‘bread-less’ sandwich?! However, my hunt for a proper GF burger came to an end a few weeks ago when I read a tweet from Kevin of glutenfreebythesea.me
about Honest Burger
and their GF buns!! This would be the first GF burger I have eaten out for over 4 years so I wasn’t going to hang around- 2 days later I was walking into their Camden Branch to try it out for myself. They have 3 branches
one in Camden, Brixton Market and Soho with another on its way in Notting Hill.
