2 Oxford Place (100% GF Restaurant) Leeds

2 Oxford Place has recently opened its doors in Leeds and is the city’s first 100% gluten free restaurant. In fact I’m sure its one of only a handful in the country that can make this claim, even in London I only know of a couple. I was already planning a visit back home to Leeds this weekend and heard that 2 Oxford Place had just opened so I had to go try it out.

It has been opened by a mother / daughter team (with the daughter having coeliac disease and who is also the baker) and they have created a lovely atmosphere with vintage style decorations and cute touches like water in old liqueur bottles and food served on vintage plates. The menu has a good selection of dishes for lunch; sandwiches, quiche, salad, soup and cakes and a dish of the day such as fish and chips. They also have an extensive dinner menu; steak with GF onion rings , mushroom ragout and steak pie all caught my eye plus a full Sunday roast menu. They even do a gluten free afternoon tea with homemade cakes, sandwiches and pots of tea / champagne which would be perfect for a birthday outing or special treat for someone!

Me and my friend started with a few nibbles of olives and crisps, the olives were served in a little vintage tea-cup and saucer. We both had the chicken club sandwich each trying a different kind of bread, which are all homemade. The bread was fantastic, it held together well even in the triple-decker club we had and wasn’t dry in the slightest. It was generously filled with fresh chicken breast and crisp bacon and served with mayo on the side so that you can add as much or little as you want.

There is a wide selection of homemade cakes and desserts to choose from and we decided to share a huge slice of summer fruit cheesecake. It is very reasonably priced for the high quality of food and our bill was less than £25 for the two of us.

I can’t wait until my next visit home to try it out again! I wish them all the best of luck I’m sure its going to be a very popular new spot in Leeds.

  1. Went today with family and friends and had a gorgeous brownie with vanilla ice cream… Next time will try the sandwiches as they look gummy. A fantastic place where I don’t have to worry about cross contamination, Thank you!
